Grassland Fire
Grassland Fire
Formed during a chance meeting in 2017 between Reverend Horton Heat bassist Jimbo Wallace and drummer Cameron Brand outside of the now defunct Crown and Harp in Dallas, Grassland Fire provide a gritty alternative to their Americana counterparts. Much in the way that Willie and Waylon rejected the polished sound of Nashville in the 60s, Grassland Fire go against the current trend of alt country by combining equal parts Outlaw Country and punk with a dash of psych rock.

With a guitar riff in his head, Wallace approached Brand with the idea of forming a psych rock band. Brand, DJ of a monthly classic country gig and himself a seasoned veteran (Blackheart Society), saw the idea to fruition with the addition of former Gift member, Brian Weems, and former Mercury Rocket/Blackheart Society vocalist Benjamin Fleming both on vocals and guitar.

The songs center around the dueling guitars and vocals of Weems and Fleming - Weems’ bold yet introspective songwriting providing the antithesis to Fleming’s signature psych sound. Brand’s drums recapture Topper Headon’s latter days with the Clash laying down the foundation for Wallace’s classic rockabilly basslines.

Grassland Fire are currently in the studio with acclaimed producer Salim Nourallah (Old 97’s, Rhett Miller) recording their first demo in preparation for upcoming live shows
